DVIS Challenge RideOn Saturday, 5 October 2002, the second annual Hillier Than Hell 80 Bike Tour was held in Tulsa. In 2001, there were 4 cyclists that completed the entire 80 miles and probably another 8 or 10 who rode portions. For this year the format was changed and we got Domestic Violence Intervention Services (DVIS) on board as the recipient of any monies raised. And they did a great job of recruiting and managed to raise $9,350 in corporate sponsorships. As for the route this year, there were 4 options available and the 52 riders were pretty much split equally among all 4. For those who didn't want to do all the hills there was a 13 mile 'Fun' ride. Anyone who was interested in doing the tough hills but just didn't have time to ride the longer routes we had a 20 mile route. Next up was a 56 mile route and for those masochistic riders there was an 80 mile route which had almost 6,000 feet of climb. Everybody indicated they had a good time and those that did the tough hills admitted (in one way or another) that they were challenged. That's what this ride is all about, for you to challenge yourself. We did have short-cuts around these hills but I don't think anybody took advantage of them. We'll post pictures as soon as some are available but first we need to thank the committee members, volunteers and corporate sponsors. Corporate Sponsors EDS Committee Members Jeff Beeson Volunteers Leo Bruning I'm sure we're leaving somebody out. If you think of anybody that's not on this list that deserves credit please e-mail the webmaster at the address below. 2003The second Hillier Than Hell 80 bike tour was not as much of a success as far as fund-raising is concerned, but the number of riders did go up. FutureIt's unknown at this time if there will ever be another Hillier Than Hell Bike Tour in the Tulsa area. We'll notify you here if it happens. |
